Today I had the privilege of indulging at Century City’s newest lunch and dinner dine-in and take-out haven for flavor: BRU’S COUNTER! Owner Ebru Fidan and Chef Bryan Pryse ran me through an extensive and delectable menu that boasts a *Woodfire Grill* / *Grilled & Crispy Chicken Sandwiches* / *Farm Fresh Salads and more!* Talk about an understatement. I was treated with some amazing meals… Here’s what we’re talking about:
GRASS FED ANGUS BEEF ON WOOD FIRE GRILL
SERVED W/ OREGANO COLESLAW AND ARANCINO
HOUSEMADE BLAZING SAUCE,
MOZZARELLA AND GRILLED ONIONS
SALMON SHEPHERD SALAD
BUTTER LETTUCE, TOMATOES, CUCUMBERS, RED ONION, ITALIAN PARSLEY, GREEN PEPPERS, GRILLED SALMON, W/ BASIL INFUSED OLIVE OIL & FRESH LEMON JUICE
CRISPY FRIED CHICKEN, OLIVE OIL, GARLIC, TOMATO, RED ONION, ITALIAN PARSLEY, FRESH BASIL
BRU’S BANH MI
GRILLED CHICKEN, CARROTS, DAIKON, CHIPOTLE MAYO, CILANTRO, JALAPENO AND FRIED EGG
The food was amazing. The light and healthy fare of the salad and salmon was a bright way to start. It opened me up to the idea that I wasn’t going to be eating anything that wasn’t fresh. Then, when I got to the bruschetta sandwich, I was reassured. All the bread at Bru’s Wiffle is baked fresh too! It’s delivered daily! It’s crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and pairs perfectly with the Banh Mi (and if you can eat that and tell me that the fried egg / grilled chicken / daikon and chiptole mayo aren’t making you wish you grew up in Vietnam — or at Bru’s Counter — then I can show you a liar). Oh, and let’s not forget the Pinwheels. I didn’t know what a pinwheel was until Chef Pryse dropped this knowledge on me. It was cheesy and grilled and bite-able and savory and hearty. Okay, hold on… my mouth’s watering. Between bites, the slaw in the middle was exactly what I wanted to cleanse the palate… so I could eat the fried cheesy rice arancini. Again, I begin to salivate. Okay, so I had the best meal ever, okay? I was at a bright and sleek urban restaurant that was serving farm to table food!
Yes. Farm to table. All the vegetables are delivered every day, the beef is grass fed, the chicken free-range and the breads are freshly baked and delivered as well. It’s legit. You want to know how legit?
Bru’s Counter doesn’t have a microwave OR A FREEZER!
They have ovens AND A WOOD-FIRE GRILL! You can taste the difference, folks. Grill marks on the chicken, beef and salmon… it’s incredible. They make Mac & Cheese every day! They make avocado fries! THEY MAKE THEIR OWN FALAFEL! It’s international fare that’s playful yet refined.
I didn’t have enough room in the ol’ tum tum to partake in the fresh baked cookies, the fresh squeezed juices or the hand-made and pressed tortillas (they even have gluten free taco shells!) but I’ll be back to get involved in anything I may have missed.
Bru’s Counter is open 11am-8pm daily and has a 3.5 mile delivery radius (with a 5 dollar delivery charge). There is parking in the back and on the street in front. Follow Bru’s Counter on twitter HERE.
Final verdict: 5/5 stars.
